There are a number of things about Mirboo North Secondary College that make it a great school community but three that matter the most, making us proud to be part of this school and our students are the following:
1. Educational Opportunities – broad range of options for all students to pursue their own personal learning journeys
2. Health and Wellbeing of our students – with a focus on educating the whole child ensuring we have things in place to nurture the emotional and social needs of our students
3. The values we uphold – Respect, Trust & Pride – which continue to withstand the test of time and the changing world in which we live.
Some of our success is demonstrated in the following ways:
Water is Life Project – a collaborative learning project between year 8 students and other countries leading to students developing their own environmental projects within the school and the wider community.
Artists in Residence Program – Resonance – Dave Paxton as Artist in residence working with Bec Woodall and music students making musical instruments from parts of a tractor culminating in students making their own CD of original music
Kokoda VCAL Students organising and taking part in the Kokoda Trek
Our Focus on improving Teaching & Learning resulting in outstanding VCE results:
VCE Pass rate of 97%
Our DUX – Riona Beyer – received and ATAR score of 96.45
One student received a perfect study score of 50 for Visual Communication and design.
100% of students gained their Senior VCAL certificate
5 students received their VCE baccalaureate – just over 2000 in the state. This is very prestigious and students must gain a study score of over 30 in English, have passed either Maths Methods or Specialist Maths and have passed a language subject.
Puts us on a par with or better than many local and statewide non-government schools.
12% of students received an ATAR score over 90 and 42% scored over 80%
For a small rural school we consistently punch above our weight and I know that our staff are very proud to be part of a government school that is part of the local vibrant community of Mirboo North.
Wishing everyone a merry Christmas and happy new year.
